Greetings from Russia!
First, let me share an update on my trip to Russia. We arrived in Moscow yesterday. We had the pleasure of visiting Red Square, the Tretyakov Gallery and ride the subway. Moscow is very progressive and capitalistic! In Red Square, you can find a Dior store and many other upscale businesses in the GUM. Today our official business starts at Moscow State University of Culture and Arts.
On the flights over here, I have had time to reflect on why I would be a good ALA president. Because of my breadth of experience within ALA and a diverse work background, I can speak passionately about all aspects of ALA and represent all members of ALA. While on ALA Council and ALA Executive Board, I saw my role and responsibility as representing all of ALA and was not there to advocate for any particular interests.
The trust in my leadership abilities is reflected in the endorsement comments on this website. One such comment that is says it all for ALA members was made by friend/colleague, Glenda Thornton: “….she listens to what you have to say and considers other points of view carefully. She is genuine and a leader that we can all trust.”
….. have to sign off now. We have a packed day today. More later……
