  6. Dr. Camila Alire has so many achievements that we can all review….but. I especially remember her presentation at the Library of Congress Bicentennial–” The Silver Lining: Coping with Theft, Vandalism, Deterioration, and Bad Press Amidst the Shambles of Disaster” as she told of her work at the Morgan Library at Colorado State University after over half of the collection was flooded. I use her book, Serving Latino Communities (2007), in classes I teach. New librarians respond well to Dr. Alire’s presentation of important concerns. Hers is the kind of leadership we need.
I look forward to Dr. Camila Alire’s support of issues vital to the progress of the library field–unions, human rights, pay equity and information equity.

However, learning about Camila’s candidacy, I quickly alerted ALA of my decision to renew just so that I can vote for Camila. (I also learned that if you are a retired librarian and have held membership in ALA for 25 consecutive years that you are entitled to Continued Membership in ALA at not cost!)
