Camila is a true leader both nationally and internationally! We will have a much brighter future with her being ALA president! Let’s all lend our support her!
If information literacy at the K-12 and higher ed levels is on your list, Alire is YOUR candidate! If library advocacy for school libraries, public libraries, and academic libraries is on your list, Alire is YOUR candidate! If recruitment, retention, and mentoring of a diverse work force are on your list, Alire is YOUR candidate!
Dr. Camila Alire has so many achievements that we can all review….but. I especially remember her presentation at the Library of Congress Bicentennial–” The Silver Lining: Coping with Theft, Vandalism, Deterioration, and Bad Press Amidst the Shambles of Disaster” as she told of her work at the Morgan Library at Colorado State University after over half of the collection was flooded. I use her book, Serving Latino Communities (2007), in classes I teach. New librarians respond well to Dr. Alire’s presentation of important concerns. Hers is the kind of leadership we need.
I look forward to Dr. Camila Alire’s support of issues vital to the progress of the library field–unions, human rights, pay equity and information equity.

Dr. Camila Alire has — to the max — what I consider the three essential qualities of a leader: care for the important issues, such as her proven concern for workplace diversity; the energy to translate her values into action, as exemplified by her presentation at an SLA event I attended; and the human touch to bring others along through encouragement, shown to me personally many times. Join me in supporting Camila Alire for the next ALA President!

I’m thrilled that Camila is running — what an articulate, passionate, and strategic leader she will make! One of the things that truly impresses me about her is her capacity to listen and build relationships — a skill so crucial to the success of our profession. She is genuinely warm and thoughtful. Camila, you have my full support, and I’ll rah-rah for you as much as I can!
I support Camila Alire for ALA President. She has vast experience within many divisions of ALA. In an era when political advocacy is essential for all types of libraries to survive, Camila serves as Chair of the ALA Committee on Legislation. She has been a strong advocate for school libraries, and for all K-12 students who need their services. She understands the need for today’s students to become information literate, and knows that the school library is step one in this endeavor. She believes in inclusion: that all U.S. residents — from preschoolers to senior citizens — deserve to be served by well-funded, properly staffed libraries: in their schools, in their colleges and universities, and in their communities. Camila Alire is the best choice to lead ALA in the coming year.

At its Nov. 16th meeting the Orange County Chapter of REFORMA voted unanimously to endorse Camila for ALA President! As the chapter treasurer I will be mailing in a chapter check for $100 in support of this effort.
On a personal note: I recently retired in Dec. 2006. I decided not to renew my ALA membership. However, learning about Camila’s candidacy, I quickly alerted ALA of my decision to renew just so that I can vote for Camila. (I also learned that if you are a retired librarian and have held membership in ALA for 25 consecutive years that you are entitled to Continued Membership in ALA at not cost!) I will be sending in the amount that I would have paid in ALA 2008 dues to the Alire for President campaign.
I heartily endorse Camila Alire for ALA President! Her commitment to the profession, her good ideas and positive attitude, her willingness to listen and her proven track record re diversity make her the ideal candidate. ALA needs leaders who can help us work together while inspiring us and leading us in new directions. Camila can do all of this, while looking beautiful, cracking jokes and never loosing her cool. Vote for Camila.
She’s the BEST!
I am very excited that Camila is running for ALA President. She will be an articulate leader for our Association! And every thing that Sarah Ann Long says is absolutely true!
I am very glad to add my endorsement of Camila Alire for President of the American Library Association.
I have known Camila for many years and have worked with her on planning an event for JCLC in 2006. Her energy, dedication, and positive attitude are traits that I have long admired. She has that special gift of being able to listen — as well as to lead. I greatly respect all that Camila has done in the area of diversity.
When I am around Camila, I can feel the energy and caring that she transmits.
Camila Alire will lead our organization with clear vision, contagious energy, and thorough knowledge of the diversity of issues that are most relevant to our libraries and our communities. Through her books and other professional contributions, Camila has mentored many of us in the profession. Cuenta con mi voto, Camila!
I think it would be great for Camila to have the support of REFORMA in helping to set high standards in our 21st Century library leadership! This is a great time to be part of the changes for good!

I worked shoulder-to-shoulder with Dr. Alire during the 1997 flood disaster at Colorado State University Libraries. She truly understands libraries and the value that our services bring to each community. She is an energetic and tireless advocate. Camila is a true supporter of all staff, encouraging each person to develop to their highest potential. She has my whole-hearted support.
Camila Alire brings a lot of baggage with her on her journey to the ALA presidency: ALL OF IT SUPERB! Her wealth of library leadership experience in ALA and its division, in REFORMA, and as a chapter councilor give her an understanding of both our Association and our country’s diverse library community. Talent, vision, intelligence, experience, energy, charisma, and passion for libraries: what more could we want in our ALA president? I look forward to the day the votes are counted and Camila is the winner. We will make great strides working together with Camila during her presidency.
Hi Camila
I didn’t even know you were going for this but i knew you would never retire!. This position is right where you need to be! I love you much Auntie
Camila will bring great experience, practice, leadership, and enthusiasm to the office of the President. She has all of the qualities listed above. What she also has is an excitement for what she is doing. This excitement creates teamwork and leadership. Her term will be a great one for ALA.
I am pleased to offer my support for Dr. Camila Alire for ALA President. Camila is a strong, dedicating, inspiring and caring leader. She leads by example, and listens to the needs and concerns of others with an open heart and an open mind. She has been and is an active and proactive mentor for countless scores of graduate students and professionals. Camila Alire believes in her vocation and her vision for the future of librarianship. I am proud to join her in this quest.

Camila’s enthusiasm for librarianship and her dynamism guarantee that her Presidency will be not only productive but very, very exciting. She is a truly effective advocate for
our profession. I couldn’t endorse her more highly.
i can think of no better individual to serve as our next ALA President than Camila. I’ve been privileged to see her tireless leadership and enthusiastic vision of libraries up-close, as a paraprofessional employee. She exemplifies the best aspects of our profession, in her encouragement and mentoring of colleagues, and in her advocacy for our ideals. She is the best of colleagues, and I look forward to an ALA under her leadership.
Camila is a proven leader and a champion of library services to all people. She is knowledgeable about the Association and its members and is passionate about the profession and member participation at all levels. She is a visionary, committed to diversity, equity, and collaboration. She will represent us well as ALA President. Go Camila!

Can’t think of anyone better to serve us in the role of President than Camila. I have always appreciated her ability to be a leader who is serious about libraries and about the people we serve and who also knows how to enjoy life.
I’ve been waiting for Camila to run for years! I have had the privilege of working closely with her and she brings the type of energy and vision we need for ALA. She is inclusive and is a good listener – all vital qualities for our leadership. Camila will be an outstanding spokesperson for our profession.
Camila’s hard work and dedication to the profession speak for themselves, but this endorsement gives me a chance to speak on her behalf. Camila’s track record of leadership, networking, outreach, and advocacy is just one of the many reasons that I believe she is the right person for the job as ALA President. She has already proven herself to so many and in so many areas, but the ALA Presidency will give her an opportunity to show both the broader ALA constituency and the world the scope of her expertise and experience.
We are lucky to have someone of Camila’s caliber and expertise running for ALA president. She has my vote! She is a true leader for everyone within the organization. Her knowledge and dedication cannot be surpassed. She will represent us well.
Having had the pleasure and privilege of working for Camila at Colorado State University, I am quite glad to see her running for ALA president. Her office door was always open. If she can do for ALA even 1/2 of what she did for Morgan Library and its’ staff following the flood, then we will be quite lucky. Way to go Camila!
It is my privilege to endorse Camile Alire’s candidacy for President of ALA. I urge all of my colleagues who work in and for libraries to join me in advocating her candidacy and voting for her. Camila is a woman of vast and successful experience in libraries and in prior leadership positions in our Association. She has the tenacity to follow through with her ideas in the face of all odds and to make them happen. She is a passionate and compassionate leader who advances the agenda of ALA in the people’s interest. She has championed access for all people, both in our country and around the world and sees librarians as global citizens with global responsibilities. I have asked her to run on many occasions for many years. Finally will have the opportunity to see her win the election and become one of the most accomplished of ALA’s Presidents. Please add your vote to mine!
I had admired Camila’s work for years, but last summer I had the opportunity to co-teach with her in the Executive MLIS program at San Jose State. First hand I experienced her knowledge, her capacity and zest for hard work, and her contagious enthusiasm. Camila is a star. This, combined with her integrity will make her a great ALA President.
I like Camila’s view on the way the profession is changing, and how to tackle issues to move forward. Camila Alire has been President of ACRL and REFORMA. She has published extensively about services to multilingual populations and academic libraries among others.
Plus, Camila has a terrific sense of humor and is a wonderful dancer.
Camila’s track record speaks for itself. Her commitment to the development of young librarians and to diversity and inclusion in the LIS setting are of critical importance to the field–right now. I support Camila and I hope that she will continue to advocate for leadership development in the profession, for the recruitment and education of a talented and representative LIS workforce, and for the increase in funding that both efforts deserve. We need libraries and LIS education that mirrors the dynamic needs of our country. We need leadership that will support real commitment to professional growth and change. I believe Camila is that leader.
I picked Camila many years ago (at least 20) to become ALA President one day. Her enthusiasm, her professionalism, her commitment, her dynamic personality, her ability to constantly be a “people person”, her obvious leadership traits, her understanding of past and future problems within the profession all qualify her to be our next President.
She has my full endorsement……plus she’s an outstanding dancer. Good luck Alire!!
Every once and awhile a leader comes along that is the embodiment of energy itself and while genuinely connecting with the issues and identifying with the community at hand – catalyzes opportunity, possibility, courage, and conviction. When you are in a room with Camila – nothing is in a square box. There is more than one possibility. There is more than one opening. Get ready to deal with the desired present and to begin implementation of the desired future. While I was the Director of the Office for Diversity at ALA, Camila’s involvement with the Spectrum Scholarship Initiative went beyond support to active engagement. I have had the pleasure to work with Camila in varied capacities, most often on projects involving recruitment for diversity , cultural competence, and equity of access. I trust her. She is a steward. I know she will give the ALA Presidency her all and will call upon us for input and assistance. Aside from Camila’s authenticity and strengths, how proud I would be to see her as the first Latina President of ALA. While still experiencing the awesome Presidency of Loriene Roy and even Dr. Carla Hayden, I would look forward to celebrating more egalitarian pluralism within our association’s leadership.
Now, Camila is someone about whom I can really get excited. Without a doubt, she has my vote, and I encourage ALA members everywhere to cast theirs for her as well. She is the proven leader we need for ALA!
A vote for Camila is a vote for the future of libraries,it is rare to find someone so passionate for libraries..She is visionary library leader, she is just the combination of vision and practice that ALA needs. She embraces the personal qualities of leading and listening to all concerned with libraries. She is one alredy in the best sense of the term. She will be a dynamic advocate and for Albanian Libraries.I believe that ALA will be in good hands.Camila would be a wonderful ALA president, will give outstanding leadership to ALA.I strongly endorse her candidacy and urge every international librarians to vote for Camila
I am voting for Camila Alire for ALA President and hope you will also.
Most of you have had the opportunity to work with Camila Alire in ALA, ACRL, LAMA, or a variety of other professional organizations, and/or attended one of her presentations, and/or benefited from her publications. Having worked with Camila in a variety of professional forums, I am very impressed with her energy, intelligence, communication skills, inclusivity, leadership, and integrity.

She has held numerous leadership positions as a library director and other administrative positions. Camila has also held numerous leadership positions in ALA and other related professional organizations. Camila is a devoted and passionate professional. ALA and our profession needs the kind of proven leadership Camila will bring to the presidency.
Your professional accomplishment and leadership ability have proved yourself a wonderful leader for the ALA. Camila is AWESOME! Dedicated, energetic, great sense of humor and she really cares – not only about the issues, but about individuals as well. Camila has been a library champion (and hero) forever. Well, OK, I’ve only known her since 1982.
I heartiliy endorse Camila for ALA President! I worked with Camila in the GWLA organization, and saw firsthand what great leadership skills she has as well as organizational an diinterpersonal skills. Vote for Camila!
As an Academic Librarian from Puerto Rico, I believe that Camila can understand our struggles, status and cultural differences and something about it. Our Librarians need great support to deal with all the issues that academic, school, public and specialized libraries in Puerto Rico are dealing with today. Her knowledge, background, interest, commitment with Latinos, broader perspective of the cultural changes among other, is the key ingredients I am looking for…. ¡Por lo tanto Camile tienes mi voto! (Camile you have my vote) Saludos.
Camila is a proven leader, an excellent communicator and the visionary our profession needs! Her sterling track record on education, outreach and services to the poor and disenfranchised make her the best choice. We need Camila! Con Camila podemos!

We will make great strides working together with Camila during her presidency.

i can think of no better individual to serve as our next ALA President than Camila. I’ve been privileged to see her tireless leadership and enthusiastic vision of libraries up-close, as a paraprofessional employee. She exemplifies the best aspects of our profession, in her encouragement and mentoring of colleagues, and in her advocacy for our ideals.

January 6, 2008 at 10:48 pm
Camila’s hard work and dedication to the profession speak for themselves, but this endorsement gives me a chance to speak on her behalf. Camila’s track record of leadership, networking, outreach, and advocacy is just one of the many reasons that I believe she is the right person for the job as ALA President. She has already proven herself to so many and in so many areas, but the ALA Presidency will give her an opportunity to show both the broader ALA constituency and the world the scope of her expertise and experience.
January 7, 2008 at 8:54 pm
We are lucky to have someone of Camila’s caliber and expertise running for ALA president. She has my vote! She is a true leader for everyone within the organization. Her knowledge and dedication cannot be surpassed. She will represent us well.
January 8, 2008 at 4:34 am
Having had the pleasure and privilege of working for Camila at Colorado State University, I am quite glad to see her running for ALA president. Her office door was always open. If she can do for ALA even 1/2 of what she did for Morgan Library and its’ staff following the flood, then we will be quite lucky. Way to go Camila!
January 8, 2008 at 6:27 pm
January 10, 2008 at 7:09 pm
I had admired Camila’s work for years, but last summer I had the opportunity to co-teach with her in the Executive MLIS program at San Jose State. First hand I experienced her knowledge, her capacity and zest for hard work, and her contagious enthusiasm. Camila is a star. This, combined with her integrity will make her a great ALA President.
January 11, 2008 at 2:07 am
I like Camila’s view on the way the profession is changing, and how to tackle issues to move forward. Camila Alire has been President of ACRL and REFORMA. She has published extensively about services to multilingual populations and academic libraries among others.
Plus, Camila has a terrific sense of humor and is a wonderful dancer.
January 21, 2008 at 7:08 pm
Camila’s track record speaks for itself. Her commitment to the development of young librarians and to diversity and inclusion in the LIS setting are of critical importance to the field–right now. I support Camila and I hope that she will continue to advocate for leadership development in the profession, for the recruitment and education of a talented and representative LIS workforce, and for the increase in funding that both efforts deserve. We need libraries and LIS education that mirrors the dynamic needs of our country. We need leadership that will support real commitment to professional growth and change. I believe Camila is that leader.
January 29, 2008 at 7:28 pm
Camila is a strong supporter of intellectual freedom, and merits our votes.
February 5, 2008 at 12:56 pm

February 5, 2008 at 4:07 pm
Now, Camila is someone about whom I can really get excited. Without a doubt, she has my vote, and I encourage ALA members everywhere to cast theirs for her as well. She is the proven leader we need for ALA!
